Kerrisdale Days (Saturday Sept 8th, 2012)

It’s that time of year again!!!  This time we are making our celebration bigger and better than last year so you don’t want to miss out!

1. We are having a photo booth!  Bring your kids and take whacky and fun pictures with family and friends.  The photo booth will be available from 11am to 3pm on Saturday September 8th, 2012.  For the first 100 kids, there will be gift packages and prizes to be won.

2. 3. We will have a box of DVD’s with various titles like Cars, The Incredibles, Family Guy and etc.  $1 donation for each DVD will go to CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind).  They provide community-based support to help Canadians who are blind or partially-sighted achieve their goals and increase their independence.

4. Finally, there will be Kerrisdale Idol, an outdoor movie (E.T.), free community coffee, sidewalk sales, balloons, birthday cakes and more…

New member to our Avenue Eyecare Team!

We are excited to introduce our newest team member at Avenue Eyecare, Karen.  She will be helping us out over the summer while other staff members are away on vacation.  We are happy to welcome Karen to our team.  She has completed her first 2 years of optometry school at the University of Waterloo and is enthusiastic about learning more about her future career.  She can also serve our patients in Mandarin and Cantonese.

Here are some Q & A’s so you can all get to know her a little better:

1.    What made you decideoptometry as your career path?

My interest in becoming an optometrist dates back to when I was diagnosed withnear-sightedness. I was very curious about what occurred in the eye to cause the blurry vision I was experiencing. Duringmy undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to work with an an optometrist. The 2 years of experience I had at that clinic has developed and confirmed my passion in optometry.

2.     What have you learned in yourfirst 2 years of optometry school that will help you serve the patients atAvenue Eyecare?

My first 2 years of optometry school have equipped me to some questions that patients may have. I have also completed a course on frame adjustments and frame selection which helps me better serve the patients here at Avenue Eyecare.

 3.     What do you hope to learnworking at Avenue Eyecare this summer?

I hope to learn how to provide patients with the best service and care while applying the knowledge learned from optometry school.

 4.      What other plans do you havethis summer?

I will be going on a Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) missions trip for 2 weeks this coming July. As a group of volunteers, we will be going to Cuzco, Peru to provide eye care to the residents in the area.

5.      What advice do you have forthose thinking of applying to optometry school?

I would definitely encourage prospective optometry students to volunteer or work with an optometrist before applying to optometry school. They will be able to learn a lot more about the career from this experience and ithelps confirm whether this career is a right fit for them.

1 Year Anniversary Party!!!!

We are celebrating our one year anniversary.  We would like to thank all our family, friends and patients who have supported us throughout this year.  We would like to invite everybody to come to our party this Saturday, April 28th, 2012 from 3pm to 5pm to enjoy some refreshment and drinks.  We will have sandwiches, spring rolls, chicken wings, fruit/veggie platters and cake.

Keurig Brewing System at Avenue Eyecare

If this quote resonates with you, then Avenue Eyecare will be your new second home.  We have set up our new Keurig machine for all patients to enjoy!  Imagine a cup of hot chocolate or coffee in your hand…I honestly can’t think of a better way to spend 15 minutes while my eyes are dilating.

“Keurig”is derived from the Dutch word for excellence, and I think our new machine brews an excellent cup of coffee.  We chose this single-cup brewing system for many reasons.  First off, they have the widest selection of coffee, this means there should be a blend of coffee perfect for anyone’s preference.  Keurig also uses their trademarked quiet-brew technology so the noise level will not disturb other patients.  And finally, the system is BPA-free,so we can have peace of mind knowing the plastics used are safe.

Avenue Eyecare 2012

We are very grateful for a wonderful 2011 year and are expecting an exciting 2012 year.  We would like to thank everybody that has supported us throughout this year.  We have some exciting things to share with you in the New Year.

1. Every eye exam, glasses purchase and contact lenses sales will be eligible for Aeroplan points

2. We will have a Keurig Brewing System.  Come and enjoy a coffee, hot chocolate or even tea!

3. We will be carrying new frame lines such as Jil Sander and all new models for 2012 frame lines such as ProDesign, Koali, OGA and RayBan.
